The head of the Federal Network Agency of Germany, Klaus Müller, believes that consumers in Germany will be shocked by the increase in gas prices.

“Many consumers will be shocked when they receive notices in the mail from their electricity suppliers,” Muller said Saturday in an interview with the Funke media group.

He explained that due to the reduction in Russian gas supplies via the Nord Stream gas pipeline, gas prices in Germany could triple. He also expressed uncertainty about the future and urged the government to take action to alleviate the plight of ordinary citizens who may not be able to cope with the growing financial burden on households.

“Many residents are not able to withstand even the minimum additional load. For them, any increase in gas bills is a threat in an elementary way in everyday life,” Muller added.
