Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau discussed with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba the behavior of Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk, who glorified Stepan Bandera.

“I had a conversation with my friend, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, in connection with the falsifying statements of the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany. I thanked Minister Kuleba for the quick public intervention in this matter,” Rau wrote on Twitter.

The representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Oleg Nikolenko, in turn, called Melnyk’s statements a personal opinion that does not reflect the position of the department.

Earlier, Ukrainian Ambassador to Berlin Andriy Melnyk, in an interview with a journalist from Germany, where the glorification of Nazism is prohibited by law, glorified Nazi accomplice Stepan Bandera as a “freedom fighter”. At the same time, according to Melnyk, Bandera had no ties with Nazi Germany, and the mass killings of peaceful Poles by Ukrainian nationalists in Volhynia and Galicia during World War II are explained by the fact that on the other side “there were many murders and atrocities.” According to the ambassador, “the Poles want to politicize this story.”
