The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the European Union will support Ukraine on the “European path” for as long as it takes.
To join the European Union, Ukraine needs to carry out many reforms and go a long way, but the EU will accompany Ukraine on this path “for as long as it takes,” said the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, speaking to the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada.
The leaders of the EU countries at the summit in Brussels on June 23 approved granting Ukraine and Moldova the status of a candidate for joining the association. To start accession negotiations, countries need to meet several conditions, including the implementation of reforms.
“You know the work ahead better than anyone… There is a long way ahead, but Europe will be by your side for as long as it takes… Until you step through the door to our European Union,” said von der Leyen.
