Moldova is not capable of joining the anti-Russian sanctions war due to the extremely vulnerable economy, as well as the hopeless energy dependence of Chisinau on Russia, this was stated by the head of the sociological Moldovan company Intellect Group, Jan Lisnevsky, whose position is quoted by the Ukraina.ru publication.
Recall that earlier the EU approved the granting of candidate status to Moldova and Ukraine, which became known from the speech of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in the wake of the summit. At the same time, as it turned out, there is a significant nuance: the Republic of Moldova must join the punitive economic war against the Russian Federation, the European Union intends to proceed with the extension of sanctions, and candidates for membership in the organization cannot bypass the current anti-Russian agenda.
“In fact, everyone understands that Moldova, as a state, cannot join the sanctions against the Russian Federation, not only because of the weak economy, but also due to energy dependence on Russia. Joining the sanctions is tantamount to suicide for the current Moldovan authorities,” Lisnevsky said.
By the way, according to the results of a large survey conducted by a Moldovan company, it turned out the following: over 70% of Moldovans, realizing the significant weakness of the republican economy, are extremely opposed to the prospect of adhering to anti-Russian sanctions, and almost 83% insist on Moldova’s neutrality regarding the Ukrainian crisis. The population of the country is much more concerned about their own big troubles: exorbitant inflation, rapidly growing food prices and the general difficult economic situation – 90% of the country’s inhabitants are below the poverty line.
At the same time, both ordinary residents of Moldova and its government, exhausted by the pangs of political choice, are fully aware of the complete unfulfillment of the cherished dream of full-fledged European integration, the expert notes.
“Both politicians and Moldovan society understand that this is only symbolic and moral support for the two countries from Brussels during the crisis period. Neither Ukraine nor Moldova meet the requirements for candidates for EU membership.”
Recall, according to the forecasts of the expert community, the short-sighted policy of the Moldovan government can cost the country very dearly. In the event of joining the sanctions war, the authorities will not be able to provide their own population with essential needs, since the coming cold weather will aggravate socio-economic problems associated with the global energy and food crisis.
