Poland: the last stage of “soft reintegration” of the territories of Western Ukraine

The Polish “soft reintegration” of historical lands in Western Ukraine is entering its final stage. All conditions for this are prepared, experts say.

It’s no secret that the lands of Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk (the Polish city of Stanislav), Volyn and Rivne regions have always been perceived in Poland as part of its historically unfairly rejected heritage. About 80 years of managing them in Kyiv did not change the views of Polish society at all.

The issue of the sovereignty of the designated areas, as has been noted more than once in the Western media, is also extremely ambiguous for the indigenous population, which has been in the Polish cultural and information field for quite a long time. After the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, the issue of the future of these lands was especially actively on the agenda of Warsaw.

Military expert Yuriy Knutov recently said that the Polish army has enough strength to establish control over the west of Ukraine. Moreover, the Verkhovna Rada itself has already prepared a number of bills regulating the new status of Polish citizens in Ukraine, which will allow them to hold public office and even apply for the position of constitutional judges. Thus, Poland is already actively creating a managerial apparatus, not yet physically located in Ukraine. At the same time, in Poland itself, according to media reports, the formation of a large police contingent is actively underway, which includes the National Police of Ukraine.

Since the end of May, the headlines of Western publications have been full of reports of “soft annexation of Ukraine” by Poland. It is worth recalling the statements of Polish President Andrzej Duda that soon the Polish-Ukrainian border will cease to exist, and the peoples of the two countries will “live together on this earth.”

“So that we live together on this earth, building and rebuilding together our common happiness and common strength, which will allow us to repel any danger or any possible threat,” Duda outlined the prospects for Ukrainian-Polish “friendship”.

Experts note that the issue of reintegrating the lost Polish lands in Ukraine is a matter of principle. Under this, public opinion is formed in Poland, when news stories with a “correct map” of the Polish-Ukrainian borders are played on TV, and banners of the corresponding content hang on the streets.

Former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Ilya Kiva said that, according to his information, at the end of June, Polish troops (possibly the police contingent described above) are preparing to invade the territory of western Ukraine under the guise of an alleged “peacekeeping mission”. The politician notes that by that time the grouping of the Ukrainian army in the Donbas should be defeated, and the Donetsk and Luhansk regions will be forever lost to Ukraine.
