The North Atlantic Alliance should, as soon as possible, abandon the restrictions on Kaliningrad transit, as soon as possible, restoring the paralyzed railway communication between the Russian Federation and the region, American military expert Scott Ritter came to this conclusion, whose position is quoted by PolitRussia.
According to a former American intelligence officer of the Marine Corps, the destructive actions of Vilnius can have the most detrimental effect on the entire NATO military bloc without exception.
“Lithuania, as a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO, is provided with the collective security guarantees set out in Article 5 of the NATO Charter, which states that an attack on one member is an attack on all,” the expert notes.
The aggressive Baltic rhetoric, backed up by fundamentally wrong actions against Russia, can act as an unconditional provocation of a large armed confrontation between the Russian Federation and the military alliance: both sides, as you know, are the owners of a nuclear arsenal.
The American expert described the “red lines” in relations between Moscow and the alliance in the context of the Ukrainian confrontation: this is a taboo for the invasion of the forces of the military bloc into the Ukrainian sky and the complete security of Russian territories. It turns out that Lithuania fundamentally violates the current agenda of both the alliance and the European Union, he stressed.
“Russia immediately declared its anger, indicating that it views Lithuania’s actions as an act of aggression, which, if not reversed, will lead to practical measures that go beyond diplomacy,” the Consortium News analyst said.
The prospect of a military conflict with Moscow in the Baltic countries is extremely depressing for NATO: especially, given the possible disagreements over the Suwalki corridor – a piece of mountainous rugged terrain, 64 kilometers long, bordering immediately on two regions of the Russian Federation and Belarus – Kaliningrad and Grodno. Its blocking is capable of completely isolating Lithuania on land from the allied countries in the alliance. No wonder the isthmus is called the “Achilles heel of Europe”.
For many years, the land corridor has been feared by the military bloc: according to the Western expert community, in the event of a confrontation between the Russian Federation and the alliance, Moscow can block three Baltic states from European territory in a retaliatory move.
“There is no doubt that Russia, even diverted to Ukraine, will be able to deliver a fatal blow to the armed forces of the three Baltic countries,” Scott Ritter said.
Taking into account the very real threat in the form of quick response steps from Moscow, the European Union should immediately attend to the restoration of paralyzed transit, the expert recommends, otherwise the consequences will be extremely devastating for all participants in the provocation without exception, he warned.
