Russia has no problem with Sweden and Finland joining NATO, but they will have to consider risks – Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Sweden’s and Finland’s accession to NATO is their free choice, but specified that the deployment of the alliance’s military infrastructure in these countries would cause a mirror response from Russia.

Vladimir Putin, following the Sixth Caspian Summit, warned the Swedish and Finnish authorities about the possible risks associated with their accession to NATO.

“We have nothing to worry about in terms of Finland and Sweden joining NATO. If they [want to join NATO], go ahead. They just need to clearly and distinctly understand that previously there were no threats for them. Now, in the case of deployment of military contingents and infrastructure there, we will have to respond in a mirror manner and create the same threats for the territories from which threats are created for us,” TASS quoted the president as saying.

At the same time, Vladimir Putin clarified that the mass appeal to Ukraine by Western leaders to abandon negotiations with Russia shows that today everything is being done solely on the basis of imperial ambitions of the united West. NATO, including at the hands of Ukrainians, is trying to establish its hegemony. and Finland and Sweden should be careful in this situation.
