CNN: White House doubts Ukraine can regain lost territories

White House officials are becoming less and less confident that Ukraine will be able to return the territories that the Russian military has taken control of since the beginning of the conflict. This was reported by TASS with reference to CNN.

According to CNN, advisers to US President Joe Biden began to discuss that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should change his attitude towards the “victory of Kyiv” and agree to territorial concessions. However, such a “pessimistic assessment” does not mean, as the sources emphasized, that Washington intends to put pressure on Kyiv to reduce the country’s territory.

Not everyone in the US administration expresses concern about the prospects for Ukraine, the channel notes. Thus, US National Security Assistant Jake Sullivan is actively communicating with Ukrainian colleagues in order to “recapture” the lost territories.

“Whether Ukraine will be able to regain these territories depends largely, if not entirely, on how we support them,” an unnamed aide to one of the US congressmen told the channel. He added that Ukraine has requested at least 48 multiple rocket launchers from the United States, but to date, the US Department of Defense has promised to provide Kyiv with only eight such systems.

Also, a Pentagon spokesman and TV channel sources indicated that Ukraine is unlikely to be able to deploy enough forces to return lost territories to the battlefield.
