In the Netherlands, as well as in Belgium, there are cases when host families ask Ukrainian refugees to move out because they do not want to leave them alone in their homes during the summer holidays. Municipalities in the Netherlands are preparing for the influx of Ukrainian refugees into shelters, according to the portal NU.nl.
Over two thousand Ukrainians live with private individuals in the Netherlands. According to the media, there are already host families who are asking the municipalities if they can take care of the refugees during the summer period. The authorities admit that in the coming weeks they will have to return to special institutions. It is clarified that the reason for the departure can be both a lack of free places and “problems between the host family and guests.”
It is not known exactly how many families will offer Ukrainians to move to shelters. So far, the numbers are small, but local authorities are preparing for the fact that they may become larger. One of the participants in the refugee reception program noted that in the summer, the cat goes to the zoo hotel, and the Ukrainians go to the shelter.
“Yes, it’s a harsh reality,” he admitted.
