At the upcoming NATO summit in Madrid, Russia is planned to be identified as the main threat to the alliance, the Vzglyad newspaper writes, citing US officials.
At the NATO summit in Madrid, which will be held from 28 to 30 June, Russia will be considered as a primary threat. Challenges from China are relegated to the background, but will set them out in the long run. This, according to the White House, is embedded in the new strategic concept of the alliance and will form the basis of the Madrid summit.
“Russia obviously continues to be the most serious and primary threat to the alliance,” a senior US administration official said, commenting earlier on the provisions of the new concept.
The Alliance will take a renewed approach to dealing with transnational threats, including cyber and climate threats, hybrid threats, and threats in space. A separate issue will be NATO’s new commitments to the alignment of forces in Europe to ensure the security of the European zone.
Earlier, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg said that at the Madrid summit Russia would be declared a new “threat to peace and stability.”
