The Georgian authorities do not plan to allow Russian oil delivered to Batumi, which is registered to a company that fell under Western sanctions, to enter the country. This was stated on Monday by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili at a briefing after a government meeting.
“Yes, indeed, today there is a ship in the port of Batumi, with a cargo that is registered in the name of a company that has fallen under sanctions. It is a fact. We have already reviewed the documents. In Georgia, there has not yet been a single case of circumvention of sanctions. So it will be in this case,” Davitashvili is quoted by TASS.
On Saturday, the Turkish-flagged vessel Esen Ka left Tuapse for Batumi, loading 30,000 tons of vacuum gas oil. The raw material belongs to the Russian company Rosneft, which is under sanctions due to Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. with the help of Georgia.
