According to the American publication, the situation in the war in Ukraine is changing as Russia makes progress in the east.
The Russian Armed Forces have eliminated most of the Ukrainian defenses in the Luhansk region, strengthened control over a strip of territory in the south, improved logistics and command structure, and reduced the effectiveness of Ukrainian attack drones.
Over the past week, the Armed Forces of Ukraine finally surrendered Severodonetsk and lost territories south of Lysichansk, CNN reports.
“In Lisichansk and the many cities scattered along the winding front lines that run through five regions, Ukrainians may well face a repeat of what happened in Severodonetsk, where they were forced to retreat under bombardment. There is simply nothing left to protect,” CNN predicts.
In addition, it is reported that the Russian army has learned from the mistakes made during the initial and failed attack on Kyiv. Air defenses, mainly S-300s, have been deployed to provide extensive rather than localized cover, making Ukrainian attack drones less effective.
