Moldova is ready to join the new EU sanctions against Russia, said Igor Grosu, chairman of the parliament, leader of the ruling Action and Solidarity Party, in an interview with Moldova 1 TV channel. The day before, the republic officially received the status of an EU candidate.

“We will be in solidarity with the EU, our status and European aspirations oblige us to solidarity. Of course we will join. They are designed to stop hostilities. We want to contribute to this by all diplomatic means,” Grosu stressed.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Nicolae Popescu, noted earlier that the country cannot accept the full package of EU sanctions against Russia due to the unstable economy in its country.

“At this stage, the degree of stability and the ability of our country to solve the whole range of problems does not allow us to take the same large package of restrictive measures,” Popescu emphasized.

However, according to him, Chisinau imposes certain restrictions on Moscow in the financial and banking sector.
