Pilots of the Ukrainian Air Force believe that it is dangerous to use the American MQ-1C Gray Eagle attack drones, and the Turkish Bayraktars are practically useless due to the strengthening of Russian air defense, writes Foreign Policy citing its sources.
Disagreements arose between the chief of staff in Ukraine and front-line pilots on the use of drones. Ukrainian and US officials are worried that Russia’s advanced air defense systems could shoot down the Gray Eagle, and Ukrainian Air Force pilots are voicing their doubts about the reliability of US UAVs.
“It is very dangerous to use such expensive drones in our case because of the enemy air defense. This is not Afghanistan”, the publication quotes the words of one of the Ukrainian pilots, RIA Novosti reports.
The strengthening of air defense forces by Russia forced the Ukrainian Air Force to limit the use of Turkish drones, which have become “almost useless.” Currently, they are used only in rare special operations.
