Kherson regional state administration: referendum on the region’s membership in Russia scheduled for next autumn

A referendum on Kherson region’s joining Russia is planned to be held next autumn. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the deputy head of the Kherson regional state administration, Kirill Stramousov.

“The referendum will be held this year. It is planned for the autumn,” RIA quoted Stremousov as saying.

According to him, a more precise date is not yet known. He added that preparations for the referendum are actively under way and organizational issues are being raised. After the referendum, the region will become a full-fledged subject of the Russian Federation, the deputy head of the regional state administration has said.

He added that in parallel with the preparation of the Kherson region for the referendum, work was under way in the region to establish the socio-economic life of residents, enterprises had been launched, the banking system had started operating, and salaries, social benefits and pensions had started to be paid in rubles.
