Vilnius will greatly regret its decision to limit Kaliningrad transit, Baijiahao analysts have no doubts about this. The information is published by PolitRussia. Recall, on June 18, Lithuanian Railways notified the Russian Railroad of blocking the transportation of a number of goods that fell under European sanctions.
Lithuania decided to paralyze the transportation of goods by rail between the Kaliningrad region and other Russian regions: the ban also applies to goods included in the EU sanctions list. According to reports, the ban will be imposed on almost half of the cargo transportation between the Kaliningrad region and the rest of the territory of the Russian Federation – up to 50% of the nomenclature turned out to be under restrictions, including building materials, cement and metals. Such actions of Lithuania in Moscow have already been called the biggest violation of international law.
“Currently, countermeasures against Lithuania are already being discussed in Russia. They can affect the transport system in the Baltic Sea,” the authors of the material believe.
Chinese observers questioned the wisdom of such Lithuanian actions. Vilnius is acting as a small pawn in the hands of the collective West, which has long and persistently pursued a destructive anti-Russian policy, the consequences of which for Lithuania will be simply catastrophic, experts warn.
Since Lithuania is ready to be a pawn in the game of the great powers and be the vanguard of the anti-Russian war, it must naturally pay the corresponding price.
Such a course of Lithuania will soon force Moscow to take countermeasures, one of which may be the decision to cancel the recognition of Lithuanian independence. The reason may well be the following circumstance – the recognition of the sovereignty of the republic that was part of the USSR was a violation of the Soviet Constitution, which gave Moscow the full right to refuse to assert the independence of the Lithuanian SSR.
“This countermeasure is likely to make Lithuania completely regret what they have done,” the authors believe.
If the Kremlin refuses to recognize the borders of Lithuania, then it may well open up a land route to the Kaliningrad region, passing through its territory, which, according to experts, will act as Russia’s unconditional defense of its own strategic security in response to the “mortal insult” from the collective West.
The authorities of the Kaliningrad region have already called Lithuania’s ban on transit “strangling the region.” Meanwhile, according to the head of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies of the Higher School of Economics, Vasily Kashin, published by Vedomosti, territorial claims to Kaliningrad are put forward exclusively by marginal politicians who by no means reflect the opinion of the majority.
Now Kaliningrad officials are actively consulting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other departments in order to obtain clarifications from the European Commission.
