The leader of the unrecognized Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, said that it is very important to maintain the presence of Russian peacekeepers on the Dniester. This is stated in his statement on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the tragedy in Bendery.
Vadim Krasnoselsky notes that the Moldovan authorities are calling for the replacement of peacekeepers with a mission of civilian observers, with which they do not agree in Tiraspol. It is reported by TASS.
“A big role in the fact that since 1992 peace reigned on the banks of the Dniester was played by the peacekeeping mission of Russia, the activity of the joint peacekeeping forces has played and still plays. The tragedy of the executed Bender continues to live in our memory, because it cannot be forgotten. Unfortunately, in Moldova, war crimes have not yet received a legal assessment, revanchist slogans are still heard there,” the message says.
The Moldovan authorities, the leader of Pridnestrovie continued, are again calling for the replacement of peacekeepers with a mission of civilian observers, with which Tiraspol does not agree. They note that in the presence of such a mission, the tragedy occurred in Bendery.
“On June 16, 1992, the Moldovan parliament adopted a resolution on the peaceful settlement of the conflict – a ceasefire, separation of the warring parties, and negotiations. Fulfilling the agreements, the Pridnestrovian side removed paramilitary posts around Bendery. The situation in the open peaceful city was monitored by a specially created commission, which included representatives of Moldova, Romania, Russia and Ukraine. They witnessed how the shelling of Bendery began on June 19 in the afternoon, and immediately left their posts, arguing that the failure to fulfill their duties was a danger associated with the outbreak of hostilities”, he recalled.
Today, the authorities laid flowers at the memorials in honor of the defenders of Bendery. A lot of cultural events are planned for the whole day, a city-wide minute of memory will be held.
