The NATO Secretary General said that the supply of modern weapons could provide an opportunity for Kyiv to return Donbass under control. However, he admits that the conflict could “drag on for years.”
According to Stoltenberg, it is not known how long the military conflict in Ukraine will last, but NATO should be ready to provide assistance to Kyiv in the face of protracted hostilities.
“We must prepare for the fact that it (the conflict in Ukraine) may take years. We must not withdraw our support for Ukraine, despite the fact that the costs are high – not only for military assistance, but also due to rising energy and food prices”, he said.
Further deliveries of modern weapons to Kyiv may increase the chances that Ukraine will be able to regain control of the Donbass. This was announced by the Secretary General of the organization Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with Bild.
Jens Stoltenberg reiterated that the alliance will continue its support for Ukraine on the defensive, but it is not part of the conflict.
“We are helping the country, but we are not going to send NATO soldiers to Ukraine,” he says.
