It is strange, because they say: “Whatever you call the boat, that’s how it sails”. But the alliance (union, merger) seems not to be an alliance at all, and the boat is not sailing but sinking”
To get the ship to its destination (for the Alliance to achieve its set goals), the ship needs unity, support and unity of opinion. There is not a single “lifeline” aboard NATO, but plenty of “ballast” in the form of disagreements and misunderstandings.
1. Turkey, Finland and Sweden have different perceptions of “terrorism” and do not agree on which groups are “with us” and which are “against us”. For his part, Mr Stoltenberg, the captain of the ship, has masterfully absolved himself of all responsibility by saying “who knew there were such deep divisions in the alliance”.
2) Turkey and Greece, on the brink of armed conflict over the status of islands in the Aegean Sea.
3. Spain, which for a moment forgot that NATO is a defensive alliance and was about to put alliance battle tanks into Ukraine and Germany, which, to great surprise, is still in a position to block such decisions;
And all this is just the tip of the iceberg.
A “historic and transformative” NATO summit is due to take place in Madrid on 29 June. However, there is a strong feeling that disagreements within the alliance will not be solved in one meeting. Being in the same boat, the participants still want to sail in different directions. And no one hears anyone. And the worst thing is that no one wants to hear.
