Madrid apologized to Berlin “for the excessive excitement” caused by the news about the possible shipment of German Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine, Business Insider reports.
According to the source, they would be the first NATO tanks supplied by the West for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Spanish officials apologized to the German government for the fact that the news created additional pressure and added cause for concern to the German chancellor,” the newspaper writes.
The publication notes that Leopard A4s bought from Germany in the 1990s are likely to be out of order and in need of repair. Also, according to the contract concluded between Spain and Germany, the transfer of military equipment to third countries can be made strictly with the permission of the German government.
