Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration of Ukraine Olga Stefanishyna said that the refusal to obtain the status of a candidate for EU membership in Ukraine would be regarded as a betrayal.
The decision not to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate member of the European Union in Ukraine itself will be perceived as a betrayal, Olga Stefanishyna said:
“Of course, we will not abandon European integration, but we will feel that European leaders have missed their historical chance”.
According to Stefanyshina, right now, European leaders and society are more than ever ready to grant Ukraine such a status, and there may not be another such moment.
The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that Ukraine intends to fight for the status of a candidate for EU membership “until the last minute, until the summit is over.” The conclusion of the European Commission regarding the Ukrainian application is expected on June 17.
