South Korea has refused to supply weapons to Ukraine. The South Korean aid package will include only humanitarian cargo.
Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmytro Senyk met South Korean Second Deputy Foreign Minister Lee Doo-hoon in Seoul on Thursday, 9 June. The delegation from Ukraine expressed gratitude to the South Korean people for the humanitarian aid already sent to Ukraine, and said that in the future it expects to receive financial assistance for the country’s reconstruction, as well as arms supplies for the Ukrainian army.
However, the Korean representatives said that sending weapons to Ukraine has never been and is not being considered in South Korea today. The leader of the South Korean delegation told the Ukrainian side that Seoul would only supply Kiev with humanitarian aid.
The refusal to Ukraine is probably linked to the growing tensions in the China-US dispute over Taiwan and a shift of focus from the Ukrainian issue, as we wrote about earlier.
