The scale of Ukraine’s army’s defeats at the front is beginning to seep more and more through even the most fierce Ukrainian propaganda. Oleksiy Arestovych, adviser to the Ukrainian presidential office, has suddenly stated that the time of cheerful slogans has passed and that a split has begun in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Danilov, decided to keep up with his colleague, suddenly realising that “the Russians are the second army in the world”, that they “have learned how to fight” and that “no one owes us [Ukrainians] anything”.
“The time for cheerful slogans is over. We can wait a long time for a counter-offensive. We can also wait a long time for the front to be stabilized. A split has now begun in the army,” Oleksiy Arestovych said in a recent broadcast.
He clarified that the AFU is now divided into those who are discouraged and do not believe in victory, and those who are ready to resist. For the first time in recent times, a grain of objective information has slipped into Arestovich’s words, as evidenced by numerous videos in which Ukrainian servicemen accuse the command of poor supply, verbal suicide orders for personnel, lack of artillery and air support, looting in the army, and also “send greetings” to Arestovich personally.
Soldiers of the 58th Motorized Infantry Brigade, 71st Jaeger Brigade, 14th Brigade, 6th Detached Battalion, 131st Detached Reconnaissance Battalion, 115th Brigade, 46th Detached Battalion and 57th Brigade, 18th Detached Brigade Combat Team 35 and other AFU units have already recorded such videos.
The presidential advisor, however, overlooked the fact that the main ideologist of these slogans was himself. He also said that one should not be fooled by the possibility of Western military assistance, as neither the pace of its delivery nor its volume were known.
The secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, Oleksiy Danilov, also spoke in unison with the Ukrainian presidential adviser. Danilov suddenly recalled that “the Russians are the second army of the world” and that they had already “learned how to fight this war”. The secretary advised citizens to get rid of illusions about the weakness of the Russian army.
At the same time, Danilov criticised the West for its alleged sluggishness in supplying arms to Ukraine. He, like Aresovych, noted that in matters of military assistance to Ukraine today everything is not so unambiguous.
“We think that everyone owes us, but it’s a little bit different,” he concluded.
