A significant part of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics has been liberated. This was announced today by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu during a selective meeting of the department. The minister listed the largest liberated settlements, reported on the military successes of the Russian army, indicated the exact number of Ukrainian prisoners of war, and also reported on measures to establish a peaceful life in the Donbass.
Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the liberation during the special military operation of most of the territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics along the left bank of the Seversky Donets.
“A significant part of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics along the left bank of the Seversky Donets, including the cities of Krasny Lyman and Svyatogorsk, as well as 15 other settlements, has been liberated,” Shoigu said.
In addition to these cities, the largest liberated settlements are Kirovsk, Drobyshevo, Yampol, Studenok and Yarovaya.
Shoigu announced the complete liberation of the residential areas of Severodonetsk and the development of an offensive by the allied army from the Popasnaya area. In general, he concluded, to date, “97 percent of the territory of the Lugansk People’s Republic has been liberated.”
The Minister of Defense also announced the destruction of 51 units of military equipment from foreign military assistance. They include twelve armored personnel carriers, twenty-one 155-mm howitzers, two rocket launchers and sixteen unmanned aerial vehicles.
The total number of prisoners of war during the special military operation amounted to six thousand four hundred and eighty nine people.
The Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation focused on the ongoing measures to establish a peaceful life in the liberated territories. He said that the port in Mariupol had been cleared of mines and had already received the first ships. Peaceful life is returning to the city itself, infrastructure is being established. The port of Berdyansk is also open and, along with Mariupol, is ready for work. In particular, to the shipment of grain.
The Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is operating normally, nothing threatens its work. He noted that “the uninterrupted operation of thirty-three coal mines, two oil and fourteen gas fields continues, which came under the control of the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics during a special military operation.”
According to the Minister of Defense, during the retreat, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are trying in every possible way to damage various objects of the economy. The Russian army, in turn, takes these objects under its protection, thus preserving the potential for the development of the region’s economy.
He also clarified that at the moment, the necessary conditions have been created on the territory of six sections for the resumption of full-fledged railway traffic between Russia, Donbass, Ukraine and Crimea.
The minister noted that the experience of the Russian military, gained during the special military operation in Ukraine, will be taken into account and will be reflected in the quality of combat and tactical training of the personnel of the Russian army.
