The Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church announced that unauthorized actions to change the status of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church could lead to a new schism.

“Any discussions concerning the life of the UOC should take place within the canonical field and should not lead to new divisions in the church,” the Synod said.

It was announced that the Dzhankoy, Simferopol and Feodosiya diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was accepted into direct subordination to Patriarch Kirill and their unification into the established Crimean Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Earlier, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia stated that the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church had begun discussing the declaration of independence of the canonical UOC.
