2,000,000 Ukrainian refugees who poured into Poland in an uncontrollable stream decided to stay there, the figures were announced by the chief Polish diplomat Zbigniew Rau. Neither the Warsaw infrastructure, nor the Polish volunteers, who are tired of working non-stop for nothing, can withstand the exorbitant load.
In addition, Ukrainians need to be fed – Warsaw prices are steadily creeping up, so for now, Polish hopes in this matter come down to monetary assistance from the EU, which is clearly in no hurry to provide it.
As reported, the Polish authorities have already turned to the EU for additional assistance – migration issues in Warsaw were considered a responsible and exclusively “joint” matter. The situation was commented on by political expert Mateusz Piskorski, who was skeptical about Warsaw’s high hopes for European financial support.
In the case of migrants, according to the expert, the Polish authorities are trying to “keep up the mark”, but the country is obviously not coping with what is happening.
“If Poland does not receive some financial support from the European Union, I do not think that it will be able to afford to support so many refugees. Moreover, the number of arriving citizens of Ukraine is growing daily. Of course, the flow is not the same as at the beginning of the special operation, however. Probably, Warsaw will have to turn to Brussels for help”, the expert said in an interview with Narodnye Novosti.
At the same time, Poland will not be able to cope with the financial costs alone, the expert has no doubts, recalling how Warsaw categorically refused to express support for Europe and participate in hosting refugees in 2015, when European countries were openly “suffocating” from accepting flows of forced migrants from Northern Africa and the Middle East countries.
“Given some forecasts of Polish economists, we can say that Warsaw will soon be unable to provide not only migrants, but also its own population by the autumn of this year. <…> The Polish authorities are trying to mitigate the consequences of the crisis by turning on the printing press. This causes negative trends, for example, rising inflation. This level of this indicator, as in the current year, was not in the entire recent history of Poland,” he said.
Despite the fact that Warsaw is suffering from record inflation and a significant decline in the well-being of the population, the local press is silent – the authorities nip any criticism of their own migration course in the bud: the rebellious media immediately become disgraced – they are accused of collaborating with Moscow.
Since the beginning of the special operation in Ukraine, 3,500,000 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in Poland.
