German Economics Minister Robert Habeck said that Germany expects a serious increase in social tensions, according to the publication Süddeutsche Zeitung. The reason for this: disputes over new spending on military assistance to Ukraine.

According to Habek’s forecasts, a strong increase in tension in German society is expected in the winter due to sharply increased heating tariffs.

“Whether political measures are enough to maintain social peace and the feeling that everything is fair in this country will be the decisive question of autumn and winter. I’m not quite sure yet,” the minister said.

He also noted that Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, as well as retaliatory sanctions from the West, led to a global increase in energy prices and, as a result, to the rest of the list of goods.

The economy minister added that the longer the conflict in Ukraine continues, the sooner German society will get used to it and switch to other, more pressing topics for itself. This is especially exciting in connection with the deteriorating economic situation in the country.

Recall that today, June 3, after a month of difficult discussions, the EU member states agreed on a new, already sixth since the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, a package of sanctions.

The new sanctions list, in addition to restrictions against a number of Russian citizens associated with state security, industry and the media, provides for a phased six-month waiver of Russian oil, an eight-month waiver of oil products from Russia, a ban on the export of Russian oil by sea (with the exception of deliveries through the pipeline), disconnection from payment system SWIFT of three Russian banks – Sberbank, Rosselkhozbank and Moscow Credit Bank, as well as a ban on the broadcasting of a number of Russian TV channels in Europe.
