EU approves new package of sanctions against Russia

The European Union approved the sixth package of anti-Russian sanctions. After a month of controversy, it included a phased introduction of an oil embargo.

Today, June 3, the EU Council at a meeting in Brussels approved the final version of the sixth package of sanctions against Russia.

The final press release reads:

“The Council of the EU decided today to impose the sixth package of economic and personal sanctions against Russia and Belarus.”

The new package includes:

– refusal of the EU member states from the import of Russian oil for six months, Russian oil products – for eight months;

– a phase-out of oil from Russia delivered to Europe by sea, with an exception for the time being made only for export via pipelines;

– disconnection from the SWIFT payment system of Sberbank, Rosselkhozbank and Moscow Credit Bank;

– a ban on showing in Europe TV channels Russia RTR / RTR Planet, Russia 24, TV Center-International, with the addition that their employees can continue to work.

It is reported that the legal version of the document will be published later in the official journal of the EU. Then it will be known which of the Russian citizens bears the burden of the new sanctions restrictions.

Officially, the new sanctions against Russia will come into force after the publication of the legal version in the journal.
