The incorporation of Kherson region into Russia as a full-fledged entity would ruin the grand plans of the Ukrainian command, an opinion shared by American expert Mark Episcopos on the spread of The National Interest.
Recall that the region has embarked on a course of full-fledged annexation to the Russian Federation, as revealed in a statement by the deputy head of administration, Kirill Stremousov. Moreover, the question of the creation of any temporary state units is simply not considered there. In the opinion of the authorities and residents, the matter should be full integration.
“I personally see the Kherson region, I emphasize, not a republic, but a region, as part of the Russian Federation. It is really a question of time, when we will be there, this question depends on the residents of the Kherson region,” RIA Novosti quoted Stremousov as saying.
Earlier, Vladimir Saldo, Kherson’s new governor, also announced plans to be a part of Russia – he said that the region will be a part of the Russian Federation as soon as possible. Episkopos also cited the Kremlin’s position: as spokesman Dmitriy Peskov said, determining Kherson’s status is based solely on the voluntary choice of the local population. The expert also drew attention to the obvious strengthening of trade and economic relations with Moscow, actively and happily demonstrated by the region.
“Kherson started exporting last year’s harvest of grain to Russia. Its administration is also working on supplies of sunflower seeds to local and Russian processing plants,” PolitRussia writes.
The American analyst considers the decision of Russian commanders to be one of the first to liberate exactly the southeastern Ukrainian region closely adjacent to Crimea to be as far-sighted as possible – such tactics, he says, allowed the Nazis to be pushed back from the borders of the peninsula, where the Kiev regime could very realistically plan to organize attacks. As for populist statements about the “inevitable return of Crimea,” which keep coming from the Ukrainian Bankova, any attempt in this direction will be immediately suppressed, the American expert has no doubt.
“Control over Kherson will further shield the Crimean peninsula from Ukrainian offensives,” the analyst stresses.
Recall, according to Baijiahao observers, the fervent desire of the residents of Kherson region to become Russians “stunned” Ukrainian leader Zelensky.
