US Permanent Representative to NATO Julianne Smith has said that the bloc’s new strategic concept will identify Russia as a “paramount threat”:
“For the alliance, Russia is priority No. 1, and it will remain so for the foreseeable future.”
According to Smith, China will also appear in this document, which the alliance is due to adopt at the Madrid summit in June. At last year’s meeting of NATO leaders, the PRC was called “a threat to the rules-based order”. This time, the alliance will try to reflect in the concept a “strategic alignment” of Moscow’s and Beijing’s interests.
Well, the alliance has recognised the obvious. It has finally developed an understanding that without inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia, it will not be possible to incorporate China into the ‘rules-based order’. It is for this reason that we have been named a paramount threat.
The emphasis on Russia is also due to the fact that three months ago, from a position of deaf geopolitical defense, our country turned to a counteroffensive that is strategic in nature. This frightens the United States and its NATO allies, promising close and irreversible changes not only along Russia’s perimeter, but throughout the world.
Our country today is the only state that has openly challenged the West and has shown that it is ready to use the entire arsenal of means, not excluding military means.
As far back as the “strategic combination of the interests of Moscow and Beijing” is concerned, Alexey Efimovich Vandam (Yedrikhin), one of the first Russian geopolitical researchers, noted in the early 20th century that the strongest basis for a partnership for Russia is the opposition to the Anglo-Saxon civilization, while China is destined to be its ally in the East.
