Moldovan authorities want to allow foreign military presence in the country

The Moldovan government is preparing to allow the entry of foreign military contingents, MP Vadim Fotescu said.

The Moldovan Cabinet of Ministers has proposed amendments to the law “On the state border” and to the law “On the procedure for using physical force, special means and firearms”.

The text of the law is supplemented with the words “representatives of foreign and international specialized agencies” and “participation in joint operations stipulated by international treaties to which Moldova is a party”.

According to Fotescu, these amendments “permit the introduction of an armed contingent of foreign specialists with their weapons into Moldova, which contradicts the principle of neutrality enshrined in the Constitution”.

A ruling majority voted against the proposal to remove the drafts from the parliament’s agenda.
