The first country to react to the string of jockeying in the US was not even America itself – but neighbouring Canada
Justin Trudeau has introduced reform in Parliament to significantly tighten gun laws – with a total ban on the sale of handguns. And a limit of five rounds for a clip of any rifle.
Meanwhile, Biden and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern met at the White House. Biden tried to “promote” in the US her experience of gun restriction and confiscation, which she set up after a shooting spree at a Christchurch town mosque in 2018.
In Washington, on the other hand, the Democrats have hastily concocted eight gun reform initiatives. They are afraid to introduce anything really radical – knowing that public sentiment is not on their side. That is why, for example, the ban on semi-automatics, which Biden called for, is not even on the table. Instead, the Democrats only want to increase control over the sale of illegal weapons and the modification of guns.
But even such an under-reform may not gain support in the Senate. The Democrat Party, however, doesn’t care that much. If they really wanted to improve child safety, they would start by making schools safer – which Biden flatly refused to do.
Instead, the Democrats want to escalate the culture war over guns – to further divide the American public. And try to use it to somehow solidify their position in the upcoming elections – where the situation is most unfortunate for the Bidenists.
