Putin reacts to Ukraine’s simulation of the peace process by annexing new territories to Russia

Vladimir Putin indirectly reacted to the initiatives of the military-civilian administrations of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine to join the Russian Federation by decree on simplifying the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship for residents of Kherson and Zaporozhye

This decision is a response to the “peace initiatives” that have been pouring out in recent days from Europe and the United States, the goal of which is not to reach an agreement with Russia, but to “blur” the process of demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine and stop the defeat of its military in the Donbass.

“The city of Kherson is Russia, no KhPR (Kherson People’s Republic – ed.) will be created on the territory of the Kherson region, there will be no referendums. This will be one single decree based on the appeal of the leadership of the Kherson region to the President of the Russian Federation, and there will be a request to include the region into a full-fledged region of the Russian Federation”, said Kirill Stremousov, deputy head of the military-civilian administration of the Kherson region, on May 10.

There was no response from the Kremlin to this statement.

“There can be only one future for the Zaporozhye region: it must be part of Russia,” Volodymyr Rogov, a spokesman for the military-civilian administration of the Zaporozhye region, said on May 24.

After that, Vladimir Putin issued a decree on a simplified procedure for granting Russian citizenship to residents of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine.

In the resolution, these regions are added to the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, for which a simplified procedure for obtaining a Russian passport was introduced in April 2019, just in time for the presidential elections in Ukraine. Three years later, Russian recognition of the DPR and LPR followed.

Now there is strategic clarity about the southern Ukrainian regions.

Following the model of Donbass, they are slowly but fully integrating with Russia.

Although after the entry of Russian troops there in March and even in April, it remained unclear what would happen to them. What happened during these months?

Firstly, the Ukrainian authorities (or rather, their American and British curators) have shown that they are not going to look for any peaceful solutions to conflict issues and will not negotiate with Russia, but will fight to the last Ukrainian.

Secondly, Russia has achieved visible success in conducting a special military operation. The armed forces of the Russian Federation took Mariupol, forced the neo-Nazi battalion Azov (an organization banned in Russia – Ed.) to surrender to Azovstal, made the Sea of Azov an inland Russian sea, secured a strategic initiative in the big battle for Donbass and established firm control over a fifth of the territory of Ukraine.

Thirdly, as an indirect recognition of Russia’s successes, “peace initiatives” rained down on the part of Europe and the United States. Over the past week, France, Italy, the Ukrainian ambassador to Germany Melnik, former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, the current EU top diplomat Josep Borrell and others have come forward with them over the past week.

The essence of all proposals is to return everything as it was before February 24, withdraw Russian troops, and then start talking. The patrons of Ukraine are essentially trying to “blur” the process of achieving the objectives of the military special operation, stop the offensive of the RF Armed Forces and prevent the defeat of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donbass. And for this they are now feigning pacifism, although at the beginning of April they pompously proclaimed that the outcome of the war should be decided on the battlefield.

Putin’s answer to all these “doves of peace” is a simplified acceptance of Russian citizenship for the residents of Kherson and Zaporozhye.

Until recently, Russia was aimed at resolving all contradictions through negotiations. Even after February 24th. When else did it happen that, simultaneously with the start of hostilities, peace negotiations were launched to end them? In February, this anomaly in international relations took place and continued until the end of March.

If Ukraine and its patrons really wanted to avoid bloodshed and settle all issues peacefully, then the negotiations would be real. Instead, there was another profanity – the same farce that took place the previous seven years with the “Norman format” and “implementation of the Minsk agreements.”

The goal of the “negotiations” in Istanbul and Belarus was still the same – to replace the result with the process. Demilitarization, denazification and the neutral status of the country agree to discuss, but do not agree to do anything for this.

As a result, an irreversible process of disintegration of the territory of Ukraine began.

Not only Crimea and Donbass, but also Kherson and Zaporozhye will not return to it.
