According to a source among employees of the chemical plant “Azot” in Severodonetsk, at the beginning of the special operation by the Russian Armed Forces, the plant’s administration decided to drain some of the ammonia reserves into the soil, diluting the rest of the substance with water.
This decision was taken due to the threat of shelling, which is especially relevant now that a fierce confrontation is taking place in the city.
The decision had environmental implications, but the detonation of the tanks could have caused even more serious environmental damage.
