WHO convenes emergency expert meeting to discuss monkeypox outbreak

The disease is transmitted through direct physical contact and by airborne droplets and is prevalent in Africa, where it mainly infects children.

The incubation period is 5 to 21 days, with symptoms including fever, back and muscle pain, chills and fatigue. Mortality rates range from 4 to 22%.

Smallpox vaccine is effective against monkeypox.

It has become known that the first cases of monkeypox have been identified in Canada and Australia.

To prevent infection, you should avoid contact with animals that can carry the virus. Also cook meat and poultry carefully – the virus is transmitted through blood.

The virus has already been identified in at least 11 countries: USA, Canada, Australia, Spain, Portugal, UK, Germany, Italy, France, Sweden and Belgium. In Spain, 30 cases have already been detected.
