Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that Kyiv does not need “substitutes” for the status of an EU candidate, who, in his opinion, “demonstrate a second-rate attitude” towards the country.

“Strategic uncertainty about Ukraine’s European perspective, practiced by some EU capitals in recent years, has failed and must stop… We don’t need substitutes for EU candidate status that demonstrate second-rate attitude towards Ukraine and hurt the feelings of Ukrainians,” Kuleba wrote on Twitter.

French President Emmanuel Macron said earlier that the process of Ukraine’s accession to the EU could take several years, even decades. In this regard, he called for the creation of a new European political community that could accept Ukraine into its ranks.
