Finland, which was sharply joining the ranks of NATO, simply imitated friendship with the Russian Federation for selfish economic reasons, Mikhail Sheremet, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, is inclined to this opinion.
He called Helsinki’s sudden decision to join the North Atlantic Alliance a betrayal, RIA Novosti reports. According to Sheremet, the northern European country has finally dropped its masks.
“Now no one doubts that the Finnish authorities were only pretending to be a friend of Russia, bargaining for economic preferences from our neighborhood. Their refusal of a neutral status and a course in NATO is a betrayal. With neighbors who do not know how to keep their word and are ready to throw a stone in the back at the first opportunity, we are no longer on the road. Russia has much more reliable friends and allies,” the deputy said.
Recall that the lion’s share of Finnish parliamentarians spoke out for Finland’s membership in the military alliance.
As the Kremlin press service said earlier, Russia’s practical response in the event that a Scandinavian country joins the alliance will entirely depend on “how close the military infrastructure will be to Russian borders.”
