Vandals vandalise Suvorov’s monument in the Swiss Alps

The cross in the Schoellenen Gorge dedicated to Alexander Suvorov’s crossing of the St Gothard pass has been vandalised with blue and yellow paint by unknown persons, local media reported.

“On Saturday evening, May 14, a cantonal police patrol discovered that the Suvorov monument was covered in paint stains. Presumably paint had been filled into glasses or sacks and thrown at the monument,” the report said.

The police have no information about the perpetrators of the vandalism so far. The material damage, as noted, “cannot be assessed”. Law enforcement officials have called on the public to provide information about the perpetrators, if they have it.

The Suvorov Cross in the Alps is over 120 years old.
