“Probing the ground”: expert Baranets explained why the Pentagon chief called Shoigu

The head of the Pentagon, who had been unsuccessfully “cutting Russia’s wires” for three months, recently got through to Moscow. Lloyd Austin who has been complaining loudly since April that no one is picking up the phone in Moscow has finally managed to talk to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

Expert Yuri Baranets gave his version of the motives of the American minister who so insistently initiated the telephone conversation.

The states, the analyst is sure, were trying to at least somehow scout the situation regarding the Kremlin’s position, as well as discreetly probe the ground, whether Moscow is expecting new negotiations with Ukraine.

“In this case I look at the appropriateness of the American call in that he certainly did reconnaissance in his conversation with Shoigu. Naturally, he was interested in the conditions which Russia puts in the current development of the situation, whether there are prospects of negotiations, on what conditions,” the  expert said in an interview with Tsargrad.

Meanwhile, Baranets does not at all rule out the possibility that the information extracted by Austin from Moscow could be transmitted directly to top Ukrainian officials.

“Russia cannot forbid him to talk to Zelensky”, – the expert said.

As for the situation in Ukraine, the combined forces of the Russian Armed Forces and the Donbas NM are now preparing for a decisive battle – there are currently about 90,000 Ukrainian Nazis concentrated in its areas, with a defensive position of just under a hundred kilometres in length. This makes it markedly more difficult for the Russian military to actively advance. Fierce resistance is being put up by the AFU fighters near Slavyansk and Izyum, and therefore the Russian command has decided to change its military tactics slightly, temporarily concentrating forces in the Severodonetsk area.
