Presidents of Mexico and Brazil May Not Attend U.S. Summit – The New York Times

A humiliating blow for Biden could be the refusal of the presidents of Mexico and Brazil to come to the Americas Summit in Los Angeles. The likelihood of such a refusal is high, writes The New York Times.

“An increasing number of Latin American and Caribbean heads of state are considering a boycott, including the presidents of the region’s two largest countries, Mexico and Brazil. This threatens the White House with a humiliating blow”, the newspaper said.

Earlier, Washington announced that representatives of Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua would not be invited to the Summit of the Americas. This drew sharp criticism from the President of Mexico.

“If there are exceptions, if not everyone is invited, then the delegation of the Mexican government will go, but personally I won’t,” Lopez Obrador quotes the NYT.

In this he was supported by the leaders of Bolivia, Goduras and a number of Caribbean states. The publication also points to the possible refusal of the President of Brazil to participate in the event organized by the United States. The reason is the constant pressure that Washington is trying to exert on the Brazilian leader.
