Mario Draghi: Germany has already paid for Russian gas in rubles

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi does not consider payments for Russian gas in rubles a violation of the EU sanctions against Russia. According to the minister, no one has officially called it a violation of the restrictions, it is a “grey area”.

“I believe the gas payments will continue for a simple, perhaps silly, reason: there is no official statement that such payment violates sanctions, so it is a grey area,” Draghi said during a press conference in Washington after a meeting with US President Joe Biden.

Earlier, it became known that twenty European companies have already opened accounts with Gazprombank to buy Russian gas in rubles.
