Despite the morning efforts of the Latvian public utilities, residents again come to the monument to the Liberators of Riga and continue to lay flowers.
The Russian Embassy in Latvia also reacted to the actions of the city authorities:
“We are outraged by the boundless rudeness of the Riga Duma. At dawn, fresh flowers were raked by a tractor like old garbage. They were afraid that the scale of the memory and gratitude of the inhabitants of Riga to the soldiers-liberators would be visible. But many people bought these flowers with their last money, carried them in their hands along the streets of the Latvian capital for a long time, since parking and driveways near the monument were blocked”.
