Despite the ban, a New Yorker went to the Immortal Regiment rally alone

New York resident Tatyana went to the Immortal Regiment rally alone, as the States canceled the rally.

New Yorker Tatyana every year on May 9 goes out into the street with a portrait of her father, a front-line soldier. This year, in the Big Apple, the organizers did not hold the Immortal Regiment action in order to avoid possible incidents, but Tatyana did not break the tradition and made the procession alone.

“In the morning I got up and went. Went around three girls. They drew attention to me, asked what it was. I tell them: I am participating in the Immortal Regiment, and this is my dad. I remember. And Victory Day is sacred to me. And they answered me: eternal memory of the dead. It’s nice to hear this from young people”, Tatiana told RIA Novosti.

The woman said that most Americans do not know at all what the Immortal Regiment and World War II are.

“We start talking to someone. Ours, they say, killed more than 400 thousand. I say: and our 27 million. The conversation ends here,” she says.

Tatyana puts on a St. George ribbon on Victory Day every year, although this, according to the woman, is not safe.

“I have relatives in Ukraine. I remember how I came to Kyiv and saw that ribbons were being torn off. I once was on May 9 and saw – they ripped off an elderly woman. I had it. They screamed. And people stood and watched. Everyone is afraid, no one approaches. And now, in general, in Kyiv, everyone is absolutely afraid. Because if you say something good about Russia, you are removed. So many people were killed there,” says Tatyana.

“Here, I am a little afraid of Ukrainian residents. Here now the Ukrainians are so embittered that I bypass them. I don’t run. I see on TV how they behave in Austria, Germany. Therefore, if they come across towards, then everything can be. Therefore, my relatives told me to be more careful, ”the woman shares.

She considers what is happening now in Ukraine to be “America’s war with Russia at the hands of Ukraine.” In her opinion, the States should stop sending weapons to Ukraine – and “the war will end instantly.”

“Who needs it? There are Nazis. Somehow my relative says to me: I don’t see Nazis. I say, look, what your children are taught. They are complete Russophobes. You have been fooled for 30 years. It’s been very difficult for me with them lately, because I see what they are”, Tatyana admits.

“They tell me in Ukraine that these Nazis are shooting at their own people. If a person wanted to run away, they shoot him in the back. If only he starts talking about surrendering to the Russians, he is no longer there. They shoot their own. I understand that these are not people. And I hear it from Ukrainians,” she says.

Tatyana plans to continue participating in the Immortal Regiment campaign, even if she has to walk alone.

This year, the organizers decided not to hold the Immortal Regiment parade in the United States. Instead, they held an online conference with veterans.
