NATO will not become a party to the conflict in Ukraine, said Stoltenberg

NATO strongly supports Ukraine, but will not become a party to the conflict, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in an interview with the Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

According to him, “we must do everything” so that what is happening in Ukraine “does not spread to other countries.”

“That’s why we don’t send any NATO troops into the country. We support the country en masse, but NATO is consciously not a party to the conflict. At the same time, we are increasing the number of troops and equipment on NATO’s eastern flank to protect our members. Germany plays a leading role in this”, Stoltenberg said.

According to the Secretary General, NATO intends to signal “very clearly” to Moscow that an attack on one of the countries of the alliance “would be an attack on all 30 member states.”

The Russian Federation has previously repeatedly stated that it is not going to attack any NATO country.
