Deputy Adalbi Shkhagoshev said that the entry of new countries into NATO would make them accomplices in war crimes.
By inviting Sweden and Finland to NATO, the alliance makes them accomplices in war crimes in Ukraine, said Adalbi Shkhagoshev, a member of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption.
“NATO, by inviting Sweden and Finland (Ukraine – understandable) to the alliance, makes them accomplices in the war crimes that they are now committing on the territory of Ukraine, supplying billions of dollars worth of weapons to nationalist battalions,” the politician stressed. As the parliamentarian added, NATO will use the new members of the alliance to satisfy its own goals under the pretext of protecting these countries “from some abstract threats,” Shkhagoshev said.
Finland and Sweden started talking about the possibility of abandoning their long-term neutrality and joining NATO against the backdrop of the Russian military operation in Ukraine. The head of the alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, noted that NATO would be glad to see Finland and Sweden in its ranks and provide them with the opportunity to quickly join. US Permanent Representative to NATO Julianne Smith said the US would welcome these countries to join the alliance.
Earlier, NATO announced that the military committee of the alliance at the level of chiefs of staff will meet on May 19 to discuss the situation in Ukraine, the upcoming summit in Madrid. The meeting will take place in Brussels, and representatives of Finland and Sweden are also invited to it. In addition to Ukraine, the agenda includes a discussion of the long-term strengthening of NATO near the eastern borders, preparations for the summit in Madrid.
