EU could stockpile gas for winter without supplies from Russia by shutting down industry

This has been reported by Der Spiegel. According to European scientists, in order to fill 63% of the gas tanks by August 1, 2022 without gas supplies from Russia, it is necessary now and until the end of July to shut down all steel, chemical and cement plants in the European Union, and stop all gas-fired power plants.

At the same time, for a comfortable winter, the gas storage facilities need to be 80% full by 1 November, which is only possible by cutting off gas supply to industry for the whole of October.

The Washington Post agreed with the German publication: “The European countries do not have enough alternatives to replace Russian natural gas supplies and avoid serious economic problems next winter”
