Lavrov: Russia’s special operation in Ukraine contributes to freeing the world from Western oppression

The Russian foreign minister spoke in an interview about the tasks and goals of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine.

“It is obvious that the attempts of the collective West to obstruct the natural course of history, to solve its problems at the expense of others, are doomed. Today’s world has several decision-making centres, it is multipolar. We see Asian, African and Latin American countries developing dynamically. Everyone has a real freedom of choice, including ways of development and participation in integration projects. Our special military operation in Ukraine also contributes to the process of freeing the world from the neo-colonial oppression of the West, densely mixed with racism and a complex of exclusivity”, – Lavrov said.

The diplomat reminded the world that people in Donbas have been living under daily shelling by Ukrainian armed formations for 8 years.

“For long 8 years people in Donbas have been victims of Ukrainian aggression. Around 14,000 people have been killed and infrastructure has been destroyed. A huge number of crimes have been committed by the Ukrainian regime. The purpose of our operation was announced openly – to protect these republics and to ensure that no threat comes from Ukrainian territory to the security of these people and the security of Russia. This was a reaction to what NATO was doing in Ukraine. They were whipping this country against Russia. They have been given offensive weapons, including weapons that can reach Russian territory, military bases have been built, including on the Sea of Azov. Dozens of military exercises have taken place, many of them on Ukrainian territory with NATO assistance. And most of these exercises were directed against Russian interests. So the purpose of this operation is to ensure that these plans are not implemented”, – the Russian foreign minister said in an interview.

Lavrov also answered the question of when the special operation would end.

“The operation will end as soon as the objectives I have described have been achieved”, – the Russian foreign minister concluded.
