“The Guardian” edition pointed out that the UK was interested in continuing the confrontation in Ukraine and is pushing Zelensky to this
Simon Jenkins, a columnist for The Guardian newspaper, expressed the opinion that the British authorities are pushing Volodymyr Zelensky onto the path of continuing hostilities, playing the “Ukrainian card” in their own interests.
Jenkins believes that London is using the Ukrainian crisis in its internal political struggle. The columnist is sure that Zelensky was instructed by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson not to make concessions to Russia. The head of the Foreign Ministry of the Kingdom, Liz Truss, does not lag behind him, the journalist notes, adding that the minister’s rhetoric regarding the conflict in Ukraine only complicates the situation.
“In the end, she said: “We will continue to move further and faster to oust Russia from all of Ukraine.” She is clearly reveling in the imaginary proxy war with the Russian bear, and no one in Whitehall seems to be able to stop her. The public use of the word “we” identifies the interests of the UK with the interests of Kyiv,” Jenkins said in the material.
According to Jenkins, Ukraine is ready to recognize Russian sovereignty over Crimea and the independence of the republics of Donbass, but this simply does not fit with the plans of Johnson and Truss, who want Zelensky to continue to fight “until the Russian Federation is completely defeated.”
“At the same time, anyone who does not agree with them can be dismissed as a weakling, a coward or a supporter of Putin,” concludes the author of an article in The Guardian.
