Politicians have again appeared in Moldova who call on the country to unite with Romania. This proposal was made by the Moldovan ex-Prime Minister Iurie Leanca.
The political magazine PolitExpert reports that he considers such a move an opportunity to gain protection from the European Union and NATO. Leanca said this while speaking on the Antena 3 TV channel:
“Chisinau can do little to protect itself in the event of an armed conflict on the left bank of the Dniester… In my opinion, the only scenario is unification with Romania, we immediately fall under the security umbrella of NATO and the European Union.”
He also stated that the authorities did not spend enough money on the Moldovan army. As a result, it is now a weak military association that does not have a special combat capability, which will not be able to protect the country in the event of a real threat.
