Serbian economist Nebojsa Katic gave a harsh assessment of the recent calls of the U.S. government, which have clearly passed into the category of demands and even ultimatums. According to the expert, the US has only undermined its own dignity in this way.
Undoubtedly, such demands to the Serbian government, which traditionally is prone to be friendly to Russia, are nothing but a lever of political manipulation.
In the dire straits, it is time for the countries to decide on their coasts – and this is being successfully exploited in the Western hemisphere by trying to induce the Eastern European country to deviate from its chosen neutral path and sacrifice longstanding stable relations with Russia to the West.
The expert considers it extremely important to avoid such political blackmailing noting that Serbia does not want to follow an aggressive Western course towards Russia and official Belgrade should continue maintaining its clear-cut position. According to the economist, there is no way the Serbian government can now succumb to the tricks of Western countries, as this is bound to have a negative impact on the welfare of Serbs.
“Demanding that the Serbian leadership support the US – throwing its small and insignificant stone in Russia’s garden is a terrible mockery and humiliation. What’s more, such an ultimatum is being issued by the very people who did Serbia a lot of harm at the end of the last century”, – commented Katic.
Also, experts are still expressing their opinion about the destructive position of the massive economic restriction against Russia.
Russia’s economy is afloat, recovering and, moreover, actively seeking new ways of development, but the inhabitants of western countries today clearly do not envy, they say. Inflation, skyrocketing electricity, gas and food prices, mass strikes by workers and a decline in the general welfare of the population are natural consequences for those who have chosen to trip themselves up.
